Nairobi, 15th November 2023 - The 8th edition of China Trade Week (CTW) Kenya made a triumphant return to its physical format, after 3 years of being held online. The event, hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, witnessed the convergence of global industry leaders, diplomats, and entrepreneurs for three days of impactful discussions and strategic collaborations.
Edwin Masivo, GEx Country Director for Kenya, set the tone for the event with a warm welcome, highlighting the strategic importance of Kenya as the gateway for trade and investment in East Africa, and expressing his confidence in the attractiveness of Kenya’s investment scene. “CTW has been a game-changer… Look around, and you'll see the incredible opportunities in construction, agriculture, food, and technology.”
Zahoor Ahmed, VP of Strategy & Partnerships at MIE Groups, expressed his excitement about the evolving nature of CTW. " Today we are excited to launch many new platforms including the eDigital Africa Summit," said Mr. Zahoor. He further emphasized MIE Groups’ dedication to continuing to live up to its mandate as an FDI driver for key source markets from Asia and the GCC with a focus on Africa.
Hon. John Ololtuaa, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Tourism, delivered the keynote address, commending CTW's resilience and its role in fostering international trade and partnerships. "CTW, over the years, has become a vital platform fostering international trade and partnerships," said Mr. Ololtuaa. While encouraging meaningful collaborations, he also urged exhibitors and delegates to immerse themselves in the rich tourism offerings of Kenya.
The event witnessed the signing of significant Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), including:
Fashion & Beauty Africa (FAB Africa) and Hey Babe: An MOU was signed to bring the FAB-Hey Babe Festival to Kenya next year, promising an exciting fusion of fashion and beauty.
KNCCI Nairobi Chapter: A strategic partnership was solidified to enhance collaboration between CTW and the Nairobi Chapter of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce. KNCCI was represented by the Nairobi Chapter Chairman, Dr. James Mwaura
Amanbo: A significant MOU was inked with Amanbo, a leading e-commerce platform connecting Kenyan businesses with Chinese suppliers and buyers. This partnership aims to facilitate smoother trade relations and open new opportunities for businesses in both countries
In its 8th edition, CTW Kenya has evolved significantly, introducing independent co-located shows like the Africa Food Show, Africa Build Show, Megawatt Africa, Africa Technology Show, Africa Security Show, and the exclusive Africa eDigital Connect Summit. The event is set to continue over the next two days, officially closing its doors on Friday, 17th November. Following this, the CTW momentum will travel to Morocco next week, 21 - 23rd November, and then conclude its successful 2023 journey in Saudi Arabia from 26th - 29th November.
